Basic Information

Enaleia is a social enterprise with the vision to make the marine ecosystem sustainable. It started operating in 2016 as the first school of professional fisheries in Greece. In addition to general fishing education, Enaleia trained fishers on contemporary climate issues and sustainable fishing methods, such as fishing tourism. Over time, the organization discovered that fishers were collecting significant amounts of marine waste, mostly plastic, in their nets. This led to the launch of the Mediterranean CleanUp project, which mobilizes fishers to clean marine plastic waste and integrates collected materials into the circular economy. Having achieved key milestones at both national and international levels, Enaleia is now focused on accelerating its impact through the Mediterranean CleanUp Project and other strategic initiatives.
