Responsibilities
Interfaces between the ship and the shore on technical matters
- Be thoroughly familiar with each fleet vessel
- Maintain a good knowledge of all assigned vessels ensuring that each fleet vessel, performs according to:
- Design characteristics
- International and National rules and regulations
- Our SMS
- Our Key Performance Indicators
- Regularly visits our vessels, to report their condition and budget variances, to ensure that the:
- Always adequately prepared for any inspection
- Conducting the drills regularly as per:
- S.O.L.A.S/S.O.P.E.P/OPA-90/Our requirements
- Existing staff onboard is well trained
- Fabric maintenance condition is up to our standards
- For the engineering personnel onboard the assigned vessels:
- Evaluates their performance
- Approves their appointment
- Evaluates their competency
- Guide them in the development of their:
- Technical skills/Interpersonal skills
- Performs cost control on the assigned categories, based on approved annual budget figures, while maintaining the vessel’s operational standards and maximizing the vessel’s performance.
Evaluates the vessels and the machinery performance regularly, to ensure machinery performance as per their designed characteristics, aboard and ashore
- Reviews the maintenance status of his assigned vessels continuously concentrating on the following:
- Status of Work Order-Failures (defect reports) of all machinery including critical equipment through the NS PMS
- The number and nature of any outstanding maintenance task:
- Evaluates reasons of outstanding tasks
- Considers rescheduling basis TRA and submission through NS PMS
- Carrying out remote verification of the completed maintenance tasks in the PMS by:
- Reviewing the findings
- Supporting documents
- Closing out the task
- Provides technical support to the vessel and Fleet personnel as required
- Monitors planned maintenance activities and arranges rendering of:
- 3rd party services
- Equipment maker or specialist contactors
- Riding teams
- Landing and repairs of equipment at shore
- Monitors class status
- Coordinates timely class inspections
- During vessels’ dry dock, attends designated vessel to:
- Prepare the dry dock and repair specification, draft
- Submit the specification to qualified bidders
- Analyze and negotiate bids
- Ensure that:
- All works are undertaken according to specification
- The vessel is delivered in a sea worth condition ready in all respects to commence commercial trading to the approved budget and time frame
- Coordinates and liaises with other company’s departments
