The Director of Engineering leads a global team of 25+ engineers, owning technical strategy, architecture, and delivery for a high-volume platform. The role focuses on driving scalability, reliability, and execution while aligning engineering efforts with business goals, partnering cross-functionally, and building strong teams and processes to support growth and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

Lead and scale a high-performing engineering organization, including mentoring leaders, driving hiring strategy, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
Define and execute the long-term architectural vision, ensuring scalable, resilient systems across microservices, data platforms, and cloud infrastructure
Own end-to-end product delivery, implementing strong development practices and ensuring predictable, high-quality execution aligned with business priorities
Oversee reliability and performance of large-scale systems, driving improvements in uptime, observability, resilience, and cost efficiency
Establish engineering standards and governance, including best practices, security, compliance, and long-term maintainability
Partner cross-functionally with Product, Data, and business leaders to translate strategy into technical roadmaps and communicate progress, risks, and trade-offs
Manage organizational operations, including performance management, hiring, compliance, and cultivating a collaborative, high-performing engineering culture

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Ten or more (10+) years of software engineering experience, including seven or more (7+) year leading engineering teams at scale.
Proven experience architecting and operating large‐scale distributed systems, streaming pipelines, and cloud‐native platforms.
Demonstrated success leading engineering organizations of 20+ people, including managers and senior ICs.
Deep expertise in modern backend architectures (microservices, event‐driven systems, distributed data stores).
Strong command of cloud platforms, container orchestration, CI/CD, and modern development tooling.
Ability to translate business strategy into technical execution and communicate effectively with executives.
Track record of building high‐performing engineering cultures and scalable organizational structures.

Good to have

Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field preferred.
Experience in SaaS, data‐intensive products, or high‐volume transactional systems.
Background in Scala, Java, Akka, Kafka, or similar distributed systems technologies.
Experience in regulated or compliance‐heavy environments (e.g., finance, healthcare, government).
Prior experience as an enterprise architect or principal engineer.
