Basic Information

Our client is a leading regulated financial services organization seeking a Network Engineer to join its Network Security team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring and maintaining enterprise firewall and network security solutions to ensure the security, availability and compliance of critical IT infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Administer, configure, and maintain a multi-vendor enterprise firewall environment.
Design, review and implement firewall rules and NAT policies in line with the organization's security standards, change management procedures and the principle of least privilege.
Perform regular policy reviews and rule-base optimization, removing unused, shadowed or overly permissive rules and documenting business justifications.
Operate and tune IPS, application control, URL filtering, SSL/TLS inspection, threat prevention and anti-malware features across the supported platforms.
Support secure connectivity by configuring and troubleshooting site-to-site IPSec VPNs, remote-access VPNs (SSL VPN / IP Sec), and tunnels to partners and cloud providers.
Investigate and resolve incidents and service requests within agreed SLAs, performing packet captures, log analysis and root-cause analysis across firewalls.
Plan and execute firmware upgrades, vulnerability remediation, certificate renewals, hardware refreshes and high-availability failover testing during approved maintenance windows.
Contribute to network segmentation initiatives (data center, branch, DMZ, PCI-DSS scope, OT/ATM networks) and to the rollout of zero-trust principles.
Implement and review firewall configurations supporting hybrid and multi-cloud connectivity (Azure, OCI), including virtual NGFW deployments.
Maintain accurate documentation: network diagrams, rule descriptions, runbooks, standard operating procedures and as-built records.
Support audits and regulatory assessments (Bank of Greece, ECB, DORA, GDPR, PCI-DSS, ISO 27001) by providing evidence, reports and remediation plans.
Collaborate with infrastructure, application, identity, cloud and SOC teams to ensure new services are delivered securely and on schedule.
Participate in the on-call rotation for critical incidents and out-of-hours change windows.

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Information Security, Telecommunications, Cybersecurity or a related discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
3+ years of hands-on experience as a Firewall / Network Security Engineer in a medium-to-large enterprise environment.
Strong working knowledge of Firewall Platforms of main FW vendors
Solid understanding of TCP/IP, routing (OSPF, BGP), switching (VLANs, trunking,), NAT, DNS.
Practical experience with IPSec and SSL/TLS VPNs, PKI and certificate management.
Experience with firewall rule analysis tools and/or policy management platforms (e.g. Tufin, AlgoSec, Skybox) is a strong plus.
Familiarity with security concepts such as zero trust, network segmentation, micro-segmentation, defense in depth and least privilege.
Comfortable working within ITIL-based change, incident and problem management processes.
Scripting ability for automation and reporting (Python, Bash, PowerShell, Ansible, or equivalent).

Good to have

Industry certifications such as: Cisco CCNP Security, Check Point CCSA / CCSE, Fortinet NSE 4 / NSE 5 / NSE 7, CISSP, CCSP.
Experience operating firewalls in regulated environments (banking, insurance, telco, healthcare).
Exposure to cloud network security (Azure Firewall, AWS Network Firewall, Security Groups, NSGs, / Fortinet / Check Point virtual appliances in cloud).
Familiarity with SIEM platforms (Splunk, QRadar, Microsoft Sentinel) and SOAR workflows.
Knowledge of regulatory frameworks relevant to financial services: DORA, PSD2, PCI-DSS, NIS2, ISO 27001 / 27002.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting mindset; able to remain calm and methodical
during major incidents.
Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain technical
risks to non-technical stakeholders.
Sense of ownership, attention to detail and a security-first mindset.
Team player who collaborates well across infrastructure, application and audit
teams.
Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Proficiency in both English and Greek (written and spoken).
